Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the party access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Seekers and Planners parties.

Viewers can expect finding out which characters will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
